Fantasy Football is back baby! Early QB Rankings

Quarterbacks

Tier 1: Matchup Winners

1. Aaron Rodgers

Last year was an aberration. There is no way ARod or the Packers aren’t much better than what they displayed last season. Jordy Nelson is back healthy, Eddy Lacy lost 20 lbs, so we can fully expect then to resemble the team from two seasons ago, with ARod spreading the ball to his many weapons and putting up points in bunches.

Feel free to take him as early as: Late Round 2

2. Cam Newton

Cam had a historical season. And while he’s unlikely to repeat that, don’t expect too much of a regression either. Having established a good passing game with his receivers, plus the return of Kelvin Benjamin, Cam will continue to take advantage of his rushing capabilities to put up points in the air and on the ground like only he can.

Feel free to take him as early as: Early Rd 3
Tier 2: Difference Makers

3. Russell Wilson

Beast Mode is gone. Long live Beast Mode. The days of Marshawn Lynch pounding the ball are over, and a new era of high octane passing has begun in Seattle. With Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett showing great promise, and Jimmy Graham one year settled in, Russ will throw the ball even more and that’ll be good for putting points in the board.

Feel free to take him as early as: Late Round 4

4. Andrew Luck

If you were one of the owners killed by Luck last year, don’t let that scare you from drafting him this season. Luck is just too talented to not bounce back to his usual self. With the team including himself getting healthier, expect him to make full use of his developing weapons in Hilton, Moncrief, Dorsett and Allen.

Feel free to take him as early as: Late Round 4

5. Drew Brees

While getting near the ancient category in terms of age, Brees is still one of the best gunslingers in the game. And with a young up and coming core if receivers for him to throw at, this is unlikely to be the season he starts falling off.

Feel free to take him as early as: Mid Round 5

6. Ben Roethlisberger

Big Ben just has too many weapons to not throw 30 TD’s and  maybe even 4000 yards. As always, his own health is the main issue but if he goes 16 games he’ll probably return tier 1 value.

Feel free to take him as early as: Early Round 5

7. Tom Brady

If not for the 4 game suspension Brady would be in the top tier on QBs on this list. But even with the suspension, he’ll give you enough numbers for the rest of the season to make a difference.

Feel free to take him as early as: Mid Round 6
Tier 3: Surefire Starters

8. Carson Palmer

Like Brees, he’s up there in the age column, but also in the yards and touchdowns columns. The number of passing options Carson has at his disposal is almost unfair.

Feel free to take him as early as: Early Round 7

9. Eli Manning

It’s looking like Eli will enjoy a final peak in his mid 30s like big brother Peyton. With the best receiving corps he’s ever had, and OBJ grabbing hauling in anything he throws up, expect to see big numbers.

Feel free to take him as early as: Late Round 7

10. Blake Bortles

A huge surprise last year, many are expecting a regression this season across the board for the Jags. It’s possible they might regress a little, but there’s just too much fire power here to get too worried.

Feel free to take him as early as: Late Round 7
Tier 4: Good Enough

11. Tony Romo

Injury is always a concern with Romo. But with Dez back and Ezekiel rushing, there should be less pressure on Romo and that’s when he’s at his best.

Feel free to take him as early as: Mid Round 8

12. Derek Carr

An up and coming QB with up an up and coming offense. Expect Carr, Cooper and Murray to make a leap together this season.

Feel free to take him as early as: Late Round 8
